Newtown's pubs have a reputation for doing pub food a bit differently, and the Botany View Hotel is no exception. On the outside, it looks like a typical corner pub until you pass through the refitted classic main bar and upstairs to the stylish bistro, a sneakily hidden space with oriental-style light cylinders, crisp-white walls, long chocolate-brown wooden tables, and some high chairs for tag-a-long tots. The blackboard menus cover a huge variety of gourmet meals from pork belly and duck confit to lamb shanks, with a couple of crowd-pleasing desserts thrown in too (fancy a vanilla bean creme brulee?). Downstairs in the main bar you can get a more snack-like feed, like chips or nachos, to go with your chosen ale.
