Bossy Boots

In a world of high-end (and high priced) gastronomy, there's something refreshing, almost quaint, about a cafe that labels its fare as homemade. And when it's in a location that's renowned for its ostentatious displays of affluence, it's even nicer to know that you can schmooze with Melbourne's finest and still greet the morning with a breakfast that gives you change out of $10.

Bossy Boots jostles for a slice of the seaside action on Bay Street and offers the aforementioned homemade provisions in a distinctly non-threatening environment. With understated decor that's very, well, beige, there's something about Bossy Boots that makes it endearingly homely, like you've just thrown open your pantry and the team at Bossy Boots have set up shop and made an ambrosial meal from your bare shelves.

Breakfast here is cause for celebration with toasted Dench sourdough served with Meredith goat's cheese, vine ripened tomatoes and roasted red peppers. Lunch borrows from a range of cuisines that include Australian, Italian and Indian. Homemade jams, cakes and pastries line the display cabinet and serve as a reminder of the meticulous efforts that are channelled into each dish.

With an alfresco dining area that will no doubt be highly coveted in the warmer months, Bossy Boots is an intimate eatery that, despite its name, definitely aims to please.

I heard that everything was made on the premises including the cakes and I was not disappointed. When was the last time you has a ginger fluff sponge or a passionfruit sponge that had just been baked. Great breaky - great coffee - would highly recommend. I will be back bossy boots.
