Bopha Devi

Bopha Devi in Docklands is a glitzy sibling to the Yarraville original, bringing traditional Cambodian cuisine to Melbourne's lacquered waterfront. This open-fronted restaurant has a lounge feel, sporting squat ottomans gathered around communal tables, glammed up with a gold-fronted bar and spider-web delicate chandeliers. While the space is slick and sophisticated, the restaurant has not lost its roots, with the dishes inspired by the home cooking of chef Chan Uoy's mother. The menu is a fascinating read, spanning soups and rice porridge, a traditional fish curry, chargrilled meatballs and so much more.

Incredibly good!
Everyone's aware that reviews are subjective, but when 7 people sit down at a restaurant they'd never heard of and agree they've just eaten one of the best meals of their lives, something good's gotta be happening.
That something is Bopha Devi.
As we were staying in Docklands, next evening we decided to eat local without much investigation. We chose Bopha Devi around the corner from out apartment.
Boy did we hit the target!! The following night we returned with more friends to share the experience - they loved it too!! We would have come back again but we had to fly home the next day.
It's not expensive (we had tons of food and wine - $55per person) and I can't tell you what's best, because it all is (we tasted each others) - but the barramundi I ordered was taste bud heaven!
Just go before they find out how good they are and double the prices!!

Warm and cosy
We dropped in late on Good Friday afternoon past the usual lunch hour, but the staff were happy to accommodate us after checking with the kitchen. The warm interior colours and lighting made for a cosy retreat from the cold outside. But we really warmed up when our steaming bowls of chicken rice porridge arrived, topped with heaps of spring onions and ginger - yummy! We'll definitely be back for the coming autumn/winter evenings.

Delicious homely Cambodian food in a great setting
You must try the Amok! It is divine. The staff are friendly and I enjoyed the tempo of the dining experience in such a pretty place!

My only suggestion is for more variety in the specials menu, especially for regular guests who might like to branch out and try something new.

Worst experience ever
We went for a bday dinner for 12ppl. 4 girls ordered the $50 banquet and 2 ordered the $30 banquet. The only diff is dessert. Our orders were all mixed up and the quantity of the dishes for EXACTLY the same to share between 4 and 2ppl!

Good food, but one ordered item was not received. Another dish was delivered to our table by mistake, then removed.
