Bookplate

There are few places more peaceful than a library. Add a lake view and tasty food and this is some people's idea of heaven. More of a cafe than a restaurant, Bookplate features excellent sandwiches, cakes and coffee. However the real treasures are on the blackboard menu, where curries, soups, fish and quiches might appear. These are made with skill and finesse and (with perhaps a sneaky glass of wine) can make for a very indulgent lunch. With all-day breakfast on weekends, it's just the place to settle in with a good book after browsing through the library.

Average cafe
The food and coffee is average and quite expensive, even compared to the city and the cafe down the road.

Service is ok but not consistent. Sometimes staff are nice, but usually in a rush. I always have to wait ages, even for take-away coffee. No table service but high prices.
Inside is plain, average and tends to be noisy. Nice outside on a sunny day with a view of the lake.

A friendly place to be
It's true that the place can get crowded, especially during school holidays. And it's true that you sometimes wait for your coffee. But what a great coffee you get (forget about them coffee chains!), and what lovely food.

I regularly drop in at the Bookplate because I'm doing research at the library, and I really love the place. And recommend it, warmly.

Nice windows, pity about the food and service
They make a big deal about their great windows. Yawn. They are nice, but really, the library owns the windows. How about paying more attention to the food and the service. Waiting half an hour for coffee for a group of four is appalling. If they take so long for a group of four, what happens when the have a function and say, fifty people? Hate to think.

Slow service and my salad was the icing on the cake. Tasteless with the worst tasting salty mayo drizzled on top.

The atmosphere was nice but the food, was average. I could pay a lot less for the same stuff at a local bakery or one of those coffee chains.
Service was slow and the staff seemed to have trouble with the concept of a carrot cake. How someone could overlook a huge cake right next to them with a label is anyone's guess.

Won't be trying this place again.
