Boire

Originating from the French verb meaning "to drink", this wine bar's moniker intends to have its patrons do just this. Located along Collingwood's burgeoning eat-street, Boire offers an eclectic selection of wines, with both Australian and French bottles featuring predominately. The menu is a laconic affair here, with a menu of much-loved French peasant dishes a loving accompaniment to the wines proffered.

Delicious
We had a great time. The wine, beers and dessert wines were wonderful. I specially loved the pate; my main was great (fish) and chocolate dessert was really fantastic and I was not able to decline the cheese.

Disappointing
Recommended by a friend - has the potential to be great, but lack of staff and abundance of customers caused major service problems and only a Wednesday evening too! After ordering first drinks (there were only two other occupied tables at this stage), we had trouble trying to order seconds when the place filled up - eventually gave up to catch someone's eye for coffee. Food had was basic french peasant chicken which had sensational flavours however let down by undercooked (hard) boiled potatoes - staff apologised but no attempt at recompense with bill. A little too rough round the edges for me with so many other places to try in Smith St.

enticing
We came here just for a drink but will definitely be back for dinner. The food selection is limited but looks very interesting, and they certainly have wines by the glass for less than $10.

A little pricey
We came by Boire on a stroll following a meal on Smith Street and decided to stop for a night cap. Being a Wednesday evening, it was rather quiet. We chose a table towards the bar at the back and were immediately supplied with glasses and water upon sitting. Only problem was that we then felt obliged to buy the exorbitantly priced drinks. That is not to say that the list is not impressive - on the contrary! - but with the average glass of wine priced at around $16 a glass, this place is not for those with change in their pockets!
