Bodega

Bodega has strutted as confidently as a puffed-up matador onto the Surry Hills restaurant scene, with a menu of rustic Spanish and South American food. With a bar next door, people can pop in for a cocktail and some nibbles, or sit down at the restaurant for a casual feast of tapas. The tiny room is dominated by a large communal table (big enough to cover with a sizeable selection of tapas) and a funky, fanciful mural of a chest-heavy bull.

The tapas-only menu features a selection of familiar Spanish flavours along with some innovative twists on rustic dishes. Those craving Spanish quarter favourites can tuck into empanadas or plates of chorizo, while the more adventurous can sample kurobuta butifarra (white sausage) with fried egg and chicharrones (fried prok rinds). Finish off with a dessert such as the luscious chocolate terrine with cava jelly, fresh fig and yoghurt ice cream, or just sit back with another glass of vino from the exclusively Spanish and South American wine list.

Favourite Haunt
Bodega is a local favourite restaurant of ours. The staff are absolutely charming, attentive and clearly passionate about the place and making sure you, the customer, are happy.

The food is tasty - challenging and different, but they keep the staples on the menu (eg eggplant & lamb, chorizo).

Good thing that they opened the bar adjacent to the dining room so accommodate more people. The wall art is something else and they have been very successful in creating an atmosphere that stands alone in the area.

Favourite place in sydney!
Im from canberra and enjoy eating out a lot. I visit sydney 4 to 5 times a year and since 2008 every trip i have made to sydney has included a visit to Bodega. We have taken friends and work mates here on a number of occasions and the food and service is always of the highest standard. We met the matredee on our last visit who always looks fantastics and provides exceptional service. I highly reccommend the mushrooms and the epplant, they are always a hit!

All up fantastic serice, food and atmosphere, would reccommend it to anyone with a keen interest in tapas and an enjoyable dining experience. Don't let not being able to book put you off they are happy to call you as soon as a table becomes available

Don't go here unless you have an even number of people!
A friend had suggested we go to Bodega and I was so excited after reading all the good reviews. Unfortunately, we didn't get to sample the menue because we had an odd (5) number of people and we weren't able to get a table. You aren't able to book at this place. When we got there, surprisingly I was told by the matride that Tapas is for even numbers only, she however offered to call us & put our names on the waitlist. After an hour we came back, still no table, however I could see that there was the exact amount of spaces we needed at the other end of an already occupied table. The matride insisted that we couldn't sit there as she didn't want to crowd the people sitting there. I couldn't beleive that there were empty seats available and they would rather have empty seats than get bums on seats! So my tip is go with an even number of people if you want to eat here.
We ended up going up the road to another tapas place and when they saw 5 of us the just pushed two tables together - too easy -we spent $66 each, so Bodega missed out on our money!

I like a bit of Spansih
The staff are effervescent with enthusiasm. They are surpassed by the food and wine which they explain with knowledgable detail. Indeed they explain with passion, a passion found in the food.

Tastiest tapas
Went with a couple of friends to eat here and the tapas were spectacular. We stayed there for a couple of hours and kept ordering tapas when they were finished. The relaxed atmosphere of the place also led to some very lively conversation. The staff were very attentive and kept filling up our glasses and attending to us when we finished each round of food.

Excellent
Food and drink was divine - our group of three even had two serves of the empanadas we liked them that much. Eggplant was excellent (but I am a fan of the vegetable) and the fish fingers were great, although not what we were expecting (in a good way).
Finished with the banana split - which is worth a return visit in itself.

Something hot & fresh in Surry Hills
We arrived here with great anticipation as we had heard nice things about it. It was a busy Friday night and our section of the communal table was ready for us. Our waiter was attentive, unimposing and explained the dishes to us. The food arrived quickly, was hot, tasty and fresh - who could ask for more? We did find the venue noisy, making conversation difficult to hear, but we'll certainly be back to this place. It's quite funky and reminds me of dining out in East Village, NYC.

Shame about the service
Great wine and fabulous food, the eggplant was out of this world (especially considering I don't normally like it!). Staff looked sensational, just a pity the service wasn't.

Yum,Yum,Yum
What a fantastic meal I had! Luckily, getting a table was easy on the night we visited but the restaurant did fill up fairly quickly so I wouldn't go too late. The food was amazing - the beef empanadas were absolutely to die for, as was the shrimp; in fact everything we ordered was scrumptious. Tapas is meant to be shared so make sure to go with a friend who is into sharing so you can try more dishes. I'll definitely be back!
