Strolling by the Boatshed Coffee House in Cullen Bay, wanderers are lured in by the smell of coffee, the brightly coloured seating and the baristas hard at work in their blue striped T-shirts. Looking out over the forest of masts in the marina, this waterside cafe offers a large serve of nautical whimsy along with their casual menu and three coffee blends. The large boat-shaped coffee counter at the front entrance was made by a local artist and matches the seafarer-inspired paintings that dot the walls and the rigging-like beams that crosshatch the interior. The coffee house is airy and comfortable, perfect for a morning coffee break, a long slow breakfast or a light lunch looking over the million-dollar yachts bobbing on the water.

Don't visit for the breakfast
I have been here a couple of times. The dinner is up market take-away in the evening, nice out on the deck overlooking the water and an excellent bar menu. Breakfast seems to have a different less dedicated chef. I ordered a bacon, egg, cheese and tomato toasted sandwich. It took 40 minutes to arrive and when it did there was no tomato on it and half a piece of plastic cheese. They also forgot the tomato. I asked if I could get cheese on both sides of the sandwich. I didn't bother with the tomato but asked if I could get some cheese on the other side of the (cut) sandwich. The sandwhich came back with almost a dozen pieces of plastic cheese piled onto it. The chef was clearly annoyed or having a joke. I'm glad I said nothing about the tomato.
