Boats Restaurant

Sitting back on timber decking and looking out over the almost touchable ocean almost feels as though you're sailing the seven seas - only, the food is a lot nicer and there's not a scurvy patient in sight. Phew. The menu here is extensive with a wide selection of modern Australian meals. If dining with a group, select a meal made for sharing, such as the blue cheese and pumpkin pizza; or the coconut prawns with mango mayonnaise. All this and you can leave without enduring a bout of sea sickness.

How long will it take the owner of this restaurant to see the light....shocking!!!
This restaurant has so much potential to be the best, but obviously the owner does not care. The service is beyond a job, waitresses with attitudes & over-worked, normally 1 waitress on duty to try & cope with the crowds, its ridiculous. It takes 1 1/2 to get your breakfast delivered, at least 30 minutes for a cup of coffee. The kitchen door is always open with the bin overflowing with filth, the floors & tables are always dirty. Occasionally you will be lucky to have a fresh cake served if you choose the day it was baked, otherwise its bad. We keep returning hoping that there will be an improvement as it has the best location with stunning views, but clealy this owner has not business sense or pride!

Couldn't Care Less
Totally agree with Rupo's comment. Went to have lunch with my partner and sat next to the cake display cabinet. The desserts looked great, except there was poor electrical wiring hanging everywhere with cream all over it. I made a comment to one of the waitresses and she was very rude and just said "ok" with a nasty look on her face like I was the poblem. The food we ordered did not look great and taste wise was below average. The overall presentation of the front of house lacked serious maintenance, this makes me shutter to think how they would maintain the kitchen which is not on display. I would be interested to see what their eat safe Brisbane rating would be.

The Pan fried snapper I had was delicious melt in your mouth , serveral of my fellow diners also chose this dish.We all agreed. We followed our meal with cofee and cake, which for $6.50 was fabulous value and the loveliest home made cakes I have had for a very long time, hot strong coffee Perfect!! We had a lovely waitress called Natarsha also Perfect!! All in all a lovely experience and great service .

a relaxing meal on a sunday afternoon
I regularly meet up with friends at Boats on a Sunday afternoon for coffee and cake. The service is great and sitting on the deck with a coffee was the best way to catch up and relax. Compliments to the chef on the Beer Battered Barramundi Special, a meal I could eat a thousand times!
I recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for great food and a great view.

Poor Service and Poor Food
I do not recommend this cafe at all.
My boyfriend and I ordered big breakfast as it was advertised as $12.90.
They were served at the timely manner, though, I found a hair between bacons on my plate! As you can imagine, it was disgusting enough to stop eating and complain. When my boyfriend approached the waitress, she just said "ok" ,and made no apologies as well as no offer to change the meal.
Since we were so disappointed with her poor attitude, we decided to leave the cafe as soon as my boyfriend finished his plate. When we went to pay, the same waitress charged us $13.9 (still no apologies made about the hair). When we pointed it out, she turned into so rude and upset and kept saying "Honestly, Honestly...." , and handed $1 back to us and left to the kitchen.
"Honestly" , we will never be back there. As a local, I am so ashamed to have such kind of cafe existed in this area.

Poor Service spoils this restaurant
Read the previous reviews on this restaurant but gave it a go anyway. Boy what a mistake. The service was apalling. We booked a table for 6 and when we arrived no table was set for 6. It took 3 requests and one of our party to stand at the counter to get an ice bucket (time space of half an hour). Nearly as long to get 2 beers and a couple of wine glasses. Despite advertising as a licenced restaurant a waiter had to go across the road to their other restaurant to get a couple of beers and then only one was bought to the table. When we pointed out one of the gents was still waiting for a drink (this is half an hour after arrival) we were told they don't have any XXXX. The dessert delivered to the table behind looked great but since they had been waiting an hour for it we decided not to chance it, its Christmas Eve after all and we had to get home in time for Santa. The food was quite tasty but certainly not worth being treated with such disdain. The waitress was clearly on another planet, wandering around aimlessley most of the time. There was only one other party of 6 and maybe 3 tables of 2 people each there at the time, hardly rush hour.

great enviroment, lovely waitress.
Popped in for a light lunch and a coffee with a girlfriend. My dodgy stodgy risotto was gluey and over powered by the parmasen cheese. However, the waitress on hand made us feel so welcome, was efficiant, bringing us menus and water promptly and making us feel well looked after and not letting us dwell amongst dirty plates. Superb coffee and dessert!!! the veiw spectacular and i'll definately be back, but not for the risotto.

Great food shame about everything else!
I have been a long time fan of Boats Restaurant at Manly. Great food and just fabulous desserts. However, what has consistently been a problem is the service. Now over time my partner and I have just learnt to accept that this is one of those little nuances of our favourite restaurant. But I must say this evening took the cake. We waited 20 minutes before being given drinks and in the end I went to the kitchen to order my second, chase our bread and ask for some water and glasses. And to top it off the staff gave us attitude and were extremely rude. With a bill well over $100.00 that was just unacceptable. It's such a shame as it is a lovely little restaurant just the service has now become unbearable. We won't be going back again - it just isn't worth the aggrevation.
