Great food!
With my sister visiting from Queensland and feeling like some Mexican food we happened to find this little restaurant. The atmosphere wasn't that great on entering but we thought we would give it a try and were very, very pleasantly surprised. The staff were very helpful with the menu and us making our choices. The meals were a generous size (to large for most of us) with good quality ingredients and really the best Mexican food that we have had. We will definitely be returning.

Exceptional
Easily the best Mexican food I have ever eaten in Australia! Fresh, tasty, healthy and unique combinations. Not your average cheesy Mexican food.

Great food let down by poor service
We were excited by the prospect of finally finding some great Mexican food in Melbourne and entered Blue Corn keen to check out the menu.

Unfortunately our reception by the waiter when we entered was terrible. No eye contact and he seemed surprised that we had a reservation. Our party didn't fit the mould of young and trendy. No we are the wrong side of 40 and also rocked up with our children.

The menu offered some great vegetarian options but not much for the children. The first waiter suggested we could modify some dishes for the children and would discuss this when he returned with the drinks. He never did return for the rest of the night.

The next waiter didn't suggest any modifications for the children and stuck to the menu. I also thought the service was lacking in that there was no assistance offered with the menu. Not even a mention of the specials board which was difficult to see from our table. Good service shows when the waiter can walk you through the menu with explanations and suggestions to assist you in selecting what to order. Without this you are left to imagine what a dish may be according to the written information.

In the end we ordered the vegatarian tacos for the kids, vegetarian burrito for myself and the blue corn quesadilla with goats cheese. Our table also ordered the garlic potatoes, mushrooms and roasted tomatoes.

The food was quick to reach the table which was great. It looked fresh and well presented. The best item was the burrito which contained rice, black beans, corn cut from the cob (with great flavour) and roasted vegetables. The blue corn quesadilla didn't present so nicely and was too spicy hot. The children's tacos were tasty but far too spicy hot even for the adults. We realised there was no discussion when we ordered about the degree of hotness for each of the dishes. Given we were with children you would expect some discussion particularly for their meals.

Unlike some Mexican dishes the food didn't come out looking like soggy stodge. A balance of crisp crunch with great toppings that spoke freshness.

One negative point for the evening was a dish for another table was placed on our table. It was left for a few minutes before the error was realised and the plate was taken from our table and placed at the appropriate table. Given the time it spent on our table - I wouldn't have put it directly onto the other table. At least take it back to the kitchen to check the dish before bringing it back out.

Overall the meal was great but would have been sensational if we had toned down the hotness of the dishes. The ingredients were fresh and cooked well. The timing of the meals arriving was excellent. The only criticism was the service. I thought the table staff on that night let the kitchen down. Better customer service would make this one of the better Mexican restuarants in Melbourne. Great Vegetarian options. Not a place to take the children.

Great service, authentic food!
If you're a lover of traditional Mexican dishes rather than Tex-Mex style offerings, Blue Corn is for you. The appetiser platters provide lovely contrasting tastes and are great casual evenings grazing with friends. While the atmosphere is somewhat cheap and cheerful, the music was upbeat Latin and the staff friendly, efficient and very in tune with their customer's needs. Will definitely go again.

Grande!
The Mexican breakfast experience is one that has to be tried at Bluecorn.

Imagine all the things you normally get in a breakfast fry-up (bacon, eggs, tomato mushrooms, etc) with the Mexican finish of guacamole, sour cream and fajita wraps.

Great concept!

Turn up hungry as it is a huge feed, had to wait a little while as they were slightly understaffed that day but it was worth the wait.

Good location as well.
