Black pepper, the most common of pepper fruits, is now found on almost every dinner table around the planet and it's also the name of this sleek Canberra outpost. With a bright and airy alfresco forecourt with views of the water, Black Pepper offers it diners a selection of mouth-watering treats (including gluten-free goodies) to choose from which are just as easy on the palate as the cafe's decor is on the eye.

Not great...
Having wandered past Black Pepper and being impressed with their reasonably good breakfast menu, we thought we'd give it a go.
Indifferent service (had to ask for water twice), the coffees didn't arrive till we were half way through breakfast and very very soggy toast made for a disappointing dining experience. I had mushrooms etc on toast - soggy. My partner had poached eggs on toast - soggy.
It was very hard to catch the eye of any of the wait staff, who were more interested in setting up new tables than attending to the patrons already seated. Add to that a public holiday surcharge, and we won't be back.

Brunch lovers
We dropped in this morning, our third visit, and were immediately seated by a friendly, courteous waitress. Our orders were taken immediately after we were asked about drinks and a bottle of water was put on our table while the coffee was being made. The coffee came quickly and was as good as I make for ourselves at home and the egg dishes arrived promptly and tasted wonderful! The restaraunt is clean and the staff happy. Don't go elsewhere for brunch or lunch. Go to Black Pepper for a HOT experience!

Bad pepper
We waited for 40 minutes for our garlic and rosemary bread, we sent it back. The menu did not say that it was served on gluten-free bread and it was a paste, not butter. We also waited 45 minutes for our drinks. The waitresses that served us asked us 4-5 times if we wanted our main. Now an hour and 10 minutes after ordering our mains, we finally get them. My partner ordered a steak sandwich and I had the fish and chips. We did not finish our mains they were that bad. I will not be going back there
