This Toorak bistro is as quintessentially French as patisseries and escargot. It evokes memories of backstreet bistro dinners for those who have travelled to France and brings life to a host of stereotypes for those who haven't. From the waistcoated staff to the miniature Eiffel Tower statue, the only thing missing from the picture is a moustache-twirling, beret-wearing host. The kitchen continues the non-stop Gallic tour, from house-made duck and pistachio sausages to boeuf bourguignonne and, of course, the aforementioned escargot.

A Fine French Bistro
Having just returned from a European holiday and had some of the most wonderful culinary experiences, we found it refreshing to find an establishment that brings us back to the exacting standards of European hospitality and food.
I can honestly say that it has a wonderful atmosphere and our special occasion was catered well, except for perhaps waiting a little too long to order pre-dinner drinks. Our hosts were most annoyed.
All our meals were exceptional and a definite return visit or two is in order, so that we can explore all the other wonderful dishes on the seasonal menu. The wine list is amazing, full of top quality imported and local wines; however quality does have a price! This place will not disappoint....highly recommended!

Incredible. Book now.
Do you want to have one of the best meals of your life? Go to Bistro Thierry, have the prawn entree, the eye fillet steak and the crepe suzette and you will not be disappointed. Frenchy waiters, with thick French accents will seat you on bentwood chairs, in an intimate bistro setting - you will feel as though you are in France. Oh, and the bread. The bread is amazing. You won't get a bread plate, but the bread is to die for. Worth every penny of the $80 a head for entree, main, dessert and coffee (not including alcohol), we will definitely be back. Also note, it gets jam packed at dinner time and you'd be hard pressed to get a table without a booking. Oh, the only reason I gave it 4.5 for service is that we needed to remind them for our coffees - but no biggie.

How to avoid old age
We're all encouraged to spend money staying healthy. I say spend your money at Bistro Thierry. You'll die earlier but at least you'll go out happy.
A meal there can only induce a sense of wellbeing, wholesomeness and pleasure, albeit at the cost of your lifespan.
Take my meal there. A pan-fried pork terrine: unctuous fat, oozing meaty flavour, cut with a perfect sharp sauce - admittedly, not for the fainthearted, but great it you like that sort of thing. Followed by a rich and heartening boeuf bourguignonne and a tarte tatin so sweet that it must surely help fund the holiday home of many a dentist.
Atmosphere was loud and buzzy and missing only the authentic waft of smoke from a Gauloise.
If your too-slowly accumulating super, your increasingly achy bones and the ingratitude of your kids make your future old age look unwelcome, get along to Bistro Thierry and enjoy yourself instead of getting old.

A really nice Bistro
Good food, fast and effective service with a touch of humour. Great atmosphere, one of the best in Melbourne. You want to come back. Prices are reasonable and good value for money. Very good selection of wine (look at the specials on the board). Will come again.
