Overcooked
While in Townsville on business, I saw this restaurant on Palmer Street, and it looked quite pleasing from the road. I decided to try it out... Which I now regret.
I ordered a Salt n Pepper Calamari for Entree, 350g Rib on the bone (Medium) for main, and a Caramel Cheesecake for desert.
The waiter recommended a great beer while I waited, and my choice of restaurant seemed good at this point.
The Salt n Pepper Calamari came out and looked a million bucks until I took my first bite. Overcooked, chewy, and generally not too good. I certainly couldn't finish it. I advised the waiter that it was overcooked, and received an apology from the waiter. Overcooking Calamari is easy enough to do, but I expected a lot better.
While waiting for Mains, I ordered a glass of Pinot Gris. The waiter brought me a Pinot Gris, but not the one I ordered... They simply replaced it with another they had in stock without consulting me.
The Rib arrived, and once again looked great... until I took the first bite. I was cooked to my request, however it was just a bad cut of meat. It was fatty, chewy, had a lot of gristle in the meat, and I was left unimpressed. The meal arrived without a steak knife, which made cutting all the more difficult. Once I requested a steak knife, that staff were once again apologetic, and offered me a glass of wine on the house.
The best part of the meal was desert, the cheesecake was great. The worst part about the meal was the fact that I left $70 lighter but still not feeling full because I couldn't eat all of what was served up to me.
The outcome: Good Atmosphere, Good Service, however I certainly will not be returning next time I'm in town, and I wouldn't recommend it to friends or colleagues.
Cheers !

Not so gluten free
Ordered seafood risotto entree size. Got a mains size which tasted like it had 1/2 a bottle of fish sauce in it. I was told it was a gluten free meal as I am gluten intolerant. IT WAS Not.
Partner ordered a entree size Chicken dish and was given a mains seafood dish. Spoke to staff whom were very apologetic but did not offer to replace the meals. Should have cost $55 but ended up costing $75 due to the wrong meals served.
Verdict Never again.

Not impressed
Pub atmosphere. Noisy and busy.
The service was poor. For example, the waiter reached across in front of my partner's face to pass my drink, while there was plenty of room beside me to take the 2 extra steps needed not to be so rude. This was the one and only time all night that we had been offered drinks, so we drank the bottle of water that was placed on our table. It was never refilled.
My companions' meals were average, at best. Mine, the barramundi, was very raw and had to be returned. It was brought back with much apology, this time cooked (the same piece of fish) but was now dry. It was served with bland rice (no sauce or dressing) and although the description sounded nice on the menu, I was far from impressed with the tasteless result.
At $48 for this meal, even more for my companions meals, I hoped they would at least have offered us a discount, which they didn't.
Verdict: Over priced, under quality.
