Bistro Moncur is accessible, friendly and serves excellent French food. They don't accept reservations but the bar is a good place to wait while a table comes free. This can test your dedication, but fortunately, it's worth it, with a menu of modern French dishes that are stunningly flavoured, generously portioned and made from recognisably fresh ingredients. Try the French onion souffle gratin or sirloin cafe de Paris, and keep an eye out for the daily menu and wine specials.

I crave the steak frites.
Yes, I honestly have dreams about this dish. Grilled Sirloin with Cafe de Paris butter and a side of pomme frittes. It's $40 and worth every cent.
Never have I returned to one restaurant for the same dish over and over, and I love it every time. I've been four times and have only ever tried one other dish (and it too was very good). The market vegetable of the day always turns out to be delicious too.
I'm taking a long trip overseas and decided to take one last sirloin at Bistro Moncur before I left. You couldn't imagine my disappointment to find this restaurant is closed till March 6 for renovations.
I will be sometime before I'm reunited with this dish, but the wait will be worth it.
