There is something adorably European about this little hole-in-the-wall eatery. It's the kind of place you expect to find a Vespa or two parked out the front of. Inside, its rather interesting multi-toned and multi-textured decor adds to the overall north-of-the-equator feel.
The signature dish, baked eggs, is served on metal skillets and can be ordered with anything from dill and trout to chorizo and tomato - four selections are made available each day. Despite what the name appears to infer, Birdman is not just about creating eggy breakfast fare - when dining during the later stages of the day guests can order from a tapas selection. It is worth noting that Birdman is also well known for its tea and the delightful pots it comes served in.

More than satisfied
Greedily headed to Birdman for dessert after an already satisfying dinner; I couldnt help it after having a fantastic brunch months earlier. Service is friendly and attentive; they seem like they want to make you feeel comfortbale.
For people like me who can't make decisions, the tasting plate is always a safe way to go. The dessert plate for two ($20) came with two small doughnuts with chocolate sauce, honeycomb, nougat and a creme brulee. I was a tad disappointed with the chocolate sauce (too sweet and cheap-tasting) and the honeycmb- thought it was random. But the crispness and heaviness of the doughnuts were delicious! Nougat had a nice texture, especially as it was usual with chocolate contained. But outstanding was the creme brulee; after cracking the top nd tasting the caramel-custard like goodness, I knew i'd be back to have it again. Even if it is after brunch...

Breakfast at Birdman
The place was half full when we got there. Plonked ourselves on the table at the end, order 2 lattes and looked at the menu. It had a pretty impressive breakfast menu. There was something catered to almost everyone. From the simple sourdough toast with a choice of Birdman jam to grilled kippers with fried potato & horseradish.
The lattes arrived. After a nice long sip, we ordered our breakfast. I had to choose 1 from 4 different combinations to go with the baked eggs. I decided to go with sujok (spicy moroccan sausage) and tomato sugo (sauce). I could not wait to dunk the toast into the baked eggs. The sauce by itself was quite tart but it balances out when eaten with toast, egg and the sujok.
My partner ordered the black pudding with braised tomato, potato hash & fried egg. This is comfort breakfast. The blackpudding was delicious! Nicely spiced, rich and the tang from the tomato chutney makes a good combination. The potato hash was light and tasty. However, I felt that this dish is a little too heavy for breakfast as the portion was quite large. Will suit better as a brunch order in my opinion.
This place is not catered for kids. A stroller will fit into the narrow dining area. No baby chairs available either.
Birdman isn t all about breakfast. Brunch, lunch & dinner. They do it all. 2 fixed menus are availiable:
* Tweetie@$35 per head. It consists of 6 dishes from the main menu * Big Bird@$45 per head. A pretty good deal that comes with 6 dishes from the main menu, 2 from the specials board and a dessert sharing plate! And not forgetting an impressive wine list!
Will definitely be back here for dinner.

Cute place, great food and great service
My third time to this restaurant and it has been consistently great. The tapas style menu means you can enjoy more flavors. There is a creamy vanilla gnocchi dish which is divine. The food is simple, but fresh and cooked well. The service is outstanding - our water glasses were filled up every few minutes. Our french waitress was so cute and added a bit of fun to the whole experience. I would definitely come back again and recommend this place to friends.

Birdman doesn't leave you the least bit peckish
Rather we were left extremely satisfied and indulged. I tried the baked eggs - a choice of 4 styles available. Unfortunately they had run out of pumpkin so the pumpkin, goats cheese and spinach eggs were out of the question. Instead I risked something new and exotic - the stujoc (? sausage) sumac and spinach eggs - and I'm glad I did :) Despite being a little oily and a bit awkward to eat from the pan, they were tasty, cooked well and very palatable. My partner tried the banana pancakes, which he described as extremely delicious, but a little small in serve size. After we shared the cinnamon doughnuts with chocolate sauce - the sauce dissapointing (that cheap sugar taste) but the doughnuts were delcious and indulgent. The service was great with our water continuously topped up, and the atmosphere was fantastic - cosy and funky, with a real local vibe :) Definitely worth a try for something a little different from the normal boring brunch!
