A simple but bold style resonates throughout the restaurant from the floor up, working itself into the stunning surrounding environment. The views are superb, and not surprising given the location of the restaurant - smack bang on the river. To get there, just hop on one of the private boats that leave from the nearby wharf and enjoy the ride. The cuisine is a meeting of French, Italian and modern Australian and is served as four-, five- or six-course set menus.

Gourmet Travller 2009 Australian Restaurant Guide - "The return of Berowra Waters Inn, the pinnacle of Australian dining in the 80s, revives one of the country's most beautiful settings, a Glenn Murcutt-designed building set amid the eucalypts on the haunting Hawkesbury River."

The defining Sydney dining experience (and it's lunch)
Tetsuyas might have dibs on being Sydney's most innovative and unique restuarant but Berowra Waters Inn has to be THE Sydney dining experience... and it's lunch.
A journey along a beat up road, winding through the Australian bush... a ferry ride across the Hawkesbury river with the sunlight dancing off the water's surface... and once you arrive, the long sandstone and glass restuarant gives you ample opportunity to enjoy a beautiful Sydney day.
It's french degustation by design. Choose four to six courses from a laundry list of tasty meals. The descriptions such as "Green Asparagus Tips & Subric, Chanterelle Mushrooms" don't do the food justice. Once you've made your choice, sit back and relax because this isn't a one hour affair. We were told that, after the re-opening, they had to defer the dinner start time because the lunch time patrons hadn't left!

great experience
I had to try Berowra Waters Inn for myself after reading good reviews and it definitely lived up to the good name. The ferry ride to the restaurant itself made for something different and special, and I loved the unfussy, comfortable beachy decor which fit the setting perfectly. The staff dealt well with our large (and loud)table of 12. I had 5 courses with matching wine and found it to be great value. I loved the wine choices. All the guests raved about the food, including my 89 year old grandmother.

One of the top 5 meals ever
We have been lucky enough to have some pretty fabulous dining experiences in our time and this one was right up there. It was our one year wedding anniversary and we flew in from Rose Bay. Needless to say we went to town. We started with Champagne and then had the 6 course degustation with matched wines. We were delighted to see the wines were full glass pours per course and none of this "responsible serving of alcohol" that has crept onto Tetsuyas degustation. We couldn't fault a single dish. They were soooo delicious, beautifully crafted and balanced with the wines and the service impeccable.
Our six courses were all savoury but we were taking our time and I just couldn't pass up the dessert platter, it's meant to be for two but I would have happily had it on my own. I really don't know where I found the room. My husband also had a beautiful slice of roqueforte cheese. The dessert wine was so yummy we wrote down the name and had an extra glass, I gave up coffee for another glass of Champagne and we had our boat pick us up at 5.30pm very sozzled and very very satisfied.
At around $650 for this extravaganza it's not something we will be doing every weekend but for what you get it is worth every penny and you can very easily enjoy yourself for half the price and we will be back again for just that!

An electric night
To culminate three days cruising The Hawkesbury, my gorgeous lady friend and I decided to dine at Berowra Waters Inn. We booked in advance and were given use of a private mooring of which there are three. A storm had been forecast and we were ferried from our boat to the restaurant's landing deck just as rain began. We were met by a waitress and under cover of umbrellas led into the restaurant and our window table. The look of this place is rustic elegance with polished floor boards throughout flush against solid sandstone walls with rows of large tables dressed in white heavy cotton cloths. It has a colonial ambience just perfect for Berowra Creek. The food was equally immaculate in presentation and flavour. We both ordered a four-course degustation where each course was accompanied with a glass of wine chosen by the wine waiter. The wines from France, Italy, Australia and NZ were equally impressive. My four courses were of yabbies tails, fish, pidgeon squab and a plate of selected international cheeses. In between we were served a complimentary palate cleanser of an exquisite tasting clear tomato tea/soup. Each course was succinct, being ample in serving, pleasing to the eye and very delicious. The food waitress and wine waiter were friendly, knowledgeable and thorough, true professionals. Meanwhile Mother Nature orchestrated an electric storm and resonating claps of thunder for our entertainment. For the two of us it came to $350. In atrocious weather we were safely ferried back to our cruiser, "The Ruby Too" where we spent a cosy night moored in front of The Berowra Inn. We look forward to our next visit.
