Imagine this dilemma: you have a craving for Thai, but your partner only eats Chinese. Then there's a family friend visiting who wants sushi. Assuming you all want to eat together (rather than taking the opportunity for some quality alone time), Benny's Hot Wok Cafe has come up with a solution in its fusion of Asian cuisines.
Established in 2001 on Townsville's major eat strip of Palmer Street, Benny's has developed a sturdy reputation for satisfying food and reasonable prices. It's not fine dining, but the sophisticated east-meets-west decor provides a relaxing atmosphere for a casual night out.
The menu is varied enough to suit most tastebuds with Asian salads, seafood dishes (beeline for the Szechuan bug tails), Thai curries, sushi selections and stir-fries. The signature dish is a meaty sizzling Mongolian lamb - marinated and grilled lamb fillets with the zing of shallots.
Benny's has plenty of seating, but if you're on the run, this South Townsville cafe can provide lunchtime takeaways.

Enjoyable evening
On a recent trip to Townsville we had dinner at Bennys Hot Wok in Palmer Street. There were 5 of us and we chose to have the banquet, which was fantastic. The food was delicious, came out in a steady stream and the service was spot on. Another bonus was that they stock Shaw and Smith Sav Blanc, perfect for summertime in the tropics.
My only complaint was that despite having a table of 5, we had to pay for 6, as they have a minimum of 6 for a banquet. Surely they could shrink that number to 4?
