Taking pride in Belgian beer, this restaurant aims to add a new dimension to the Aussie beer palate, which has only on the last decade been coming to terms with the idea that there are more beers out there beyond VB, New and XXXX. For $75, patrons can sit down to a three-course beer appreciation dinner, sampling the best of Belgian beers. If the thirst overrides your hunger, then you can sample these beers cocktail-style. The menu is fluent in its European appeal, paying homage to Belgian food such as kilo pots of black mussels served in a choice of sauces such as white wine, garlic and parsley; Provencale or with Moroccan spices. Belgian Beer Cafe also makes parties and group bookings a specialty; and with so much beer and food on offer, it would be best to organise a cab.

Great venue but could do with a little brush up on service
Went with a party of 16 for a pre-booked dinner. The atmosphere was fantastic, the beers even better and it was a great venue to meet with a large group of people. Downside? The restaurant service was slow, uncommunicative, puzzled and mainly unhelpful. We sat at 8.20pm and our starter arrived at 10pm. After numerous requests we were given a free bottle of wine at 9.45pm and 3 free portions of chips to share with the table at 9.55pm Our starters arrived at 10pm! The food was average. Would recommend this as a great place to meet for drink but skip the restaurant!

Oh, I love this place.
The atmosphere of the beer garden is casual with a hint of sophistication. I love sitting at the bar with the great selection of wines on offer while we wait for the restaurant to open.
The food, while simple, was delicious. I ordered the beef pie with chips (melt-in-your-mouth beef chunks). My friend ordered the barramundi and practically licked the plate after finishing. Portion sizes were just big enough to satisfy us, but big eaters might need some additional sides.
We are never disappointed going to the Belgian, whether for after-work drinks or for a meal during lunch or dinner.
Certainly one of my favourite places in the city.

Rude and unnecessary
The Belgian Beer Cafe seemed to be decently priced, and the atmosphere was above average. However the service was offensive, rude and unnecessary and we will never return, nor recommend this restaurant.
We arrived early in the evening before the restaurant section was open. We therefore ordered from the bar menu and had drinks. Nothing exciting to comment on there.
While ordering from the bar, we were told that if we wanted dessert we could wait until the restaurant opened and have it there. We did wait, and once that section opened we proceded to go over and enjoy a dessert, only to be told by a different waitress that we couldn't have dessert only, we had to also have a main course, even though we had dinner from the bar menu. This was poor form, especially given that it was a quite night and that we had been waiting for an hour for the restaurant to open. We will not be going back.

Mussels from Brussels
This place does great mussels, although my favourite style, Moroccan, has strangely disappeared from the menu (not enough adventurous eaters?). Last time I tried the steak pie and chips, which frankly was disappointing, with the soggy beer-battered chips arranged neatly in a stack (why!?). Service can be excruciatingly slow, but the great range of beers kind of makes up for it (if you can get one). Quite expensive though.
