If you're looking for the consummate summer dining experience, it doesn't get much better than this. Spectacular beachside views, a sprawling outdoor dining area and a pricey, gourmet menu mean this restaurant showcases St Kilda's food culture at its best. The menu features savoury morsels suited to alfresco dining: dishes such as an $85 seafood platter of king prawns, blue swimmer crab, oysters, scallops, grilled fish, baby octopus, grilled prawn cutlets and fried calamari. The drinks menu includes a range of tempting cocktails, encouraging you to prolong an afternoon lunch into the early evening.

Meh..
Over priced, small portions(except for the chips), unenergized staff who couldn't be bothered. The decor is bizarre and tacky. I had the beachcomber burger the flavours we all wrong and there was not dressing on my bland salad.
The cider on tap was good.

Great Setting, Poor Service
First up it's hard to beat the setting. Sitting outside on a summer afternoon while looking out over St Kilda beach is very nice indeed.
However we have been to this restaurant a number of times now and the service is generally very poor. They tend to be very busy on weekends and it is difficult to get the attention of staff.
On our last visit the restaurant was full (inside and out). After standing around outside for a while we finally flagged down a member of staff and were simply told to stand around and to grab a table if we saw one become available. Once seated we had someone else's order incorrectly sent to our table not once but twice.
The food is OK, but much of it is overpriced for what it is.

Bad service
We had drinks and an afternoon snack here last Sunday. It was a hot day and therefore busy, but even so, there was no excuse for the poor service. When we arrived we waited over five minutes without being greeted/acknowledged by the wait staff, so we flagged someone down and were told to sit anywhere. We waited ten minutes or more without anyone coming to take our order and again had to flag someone down. Also, the staff constantly kept knocking into my chair with no apology

Weekend brunch
Generally we go here for brunch after a morning bike ride in the summer. The food and drinks have always been good, the service is a joke. A mate wanted to order something else and every time he tried to get the attention of staff nobody assisted.

Beachcomber
A very ordinary restaurant in a great setting. It's a beachy sort of place, no table cloths, lots of outside seating. Lunch special - entree, main and a house wine is good value but nothing special

Friday night at Beachcombers
Even though the service is quite average, the food is good, the atmosphere is amazing on a Friday night with the Greek band playing outside and people dancing all over the place... It's a must go!

Mediocre
We had dinner at Beachcomber on Sunday night and went away feeling we should have gone somewhere else. Food OK, service could be better.
