From the outside Barolo looks like your average newly opened ristorante; decked out in terracotta tones that evoke vivid imagery of Tuscan villas and sporting a giant wall mural of a classic Campari advert, it's immediately obvious that this place has both Italian verve and tasteful restraint.
However, it's the menu at Barolo that truly sets it apart. Instead of the usual Italian staples you could list without glancing at the menu, Barolo's cuisine is a sophisticated reimagining of cucina povera, or peasant food. Barolo's menu has an honesty and integrity to it that can only be achieved by cooking a cuisine that has evolved naturally over countless generations of family recipes handed down through the ages. There's no technical wizardry here, just simple flavours, precise execution and a deftness of touch that is very refreshing.
