Barilla Bay Restaurant

Barilla Bay is well-known for its oysters, breeding the salty little bivalves in the clean, cold waters of the bay. True aficionados are more than happy to travel to the farm's store to purchase their fix, but for those who can't wait till they get home the restaurant is a convenient stop for immediate gratification.

Overlooking beautiful Barilla Bay, the restaurant is an ode to the Apple Isle, offering a wealth of Tassie wines and produce, aside from just oysters. In fact, Barilla Bay's seafood chowder and seafood lasagne have been recipients of multiple restaurant awards, and they still remain key dishes in the kitchen.

Food was less than average except for cold oysters.
Especially, Pasta Marinara was terrible!! Worst Pasta I've ever had!!

Just grab cold oysters on the ground floor for take away.

Total Disagreement!!
I, along with my partner dined at Barilla Bay on saturday the 20th of June for a mini celebration. And I'm sorry chard82 but the food was nothing less than exquisite! We too had the steak (scotch fillet) and it was melt in your mouth! We also had the tempura quail which had such a delightful array of flavours, it was to die for. I don't know if there has been a menu change since you were last there, but I couldn't rate it highly enough- Congratulations kitchen and chef!!

Really gone downhill
Had great meals at Barilla in the past but "new look" Barilla was a real disappoinment.

Oysters weren't good enough for the over-inflated price tag. Scotch was so thin and overcooked we couldn't believe it - and we were told they've been getting complaints but still haven't changed it. Would be angry if I was served that in a pub, let alone a formerly great restaurant with a $33 price tag.

Used to be an award-winning restaurant but not this year.

Romantic dinner for two
My husband and I had a romantic dinner for two, celebrating our anniversary. Dinner was fantastic - the food was divine, dessert was scrumptious and they had an extensive wine list. They specialise in seafood, but it all tastes exquisite. I had the oysters kilpatrick - divine; steak - succulent and tender; finished with chocolate pudding - absolutely scrumptious! I thoroughly enjoyed our evening, and look forward to dining there again in the very near future.

Birthday Lunch
We dined here to celebrate a friend's 40th birthday. There was 6 of us and we had a great table next to the window with views of the oyster leases.

The food was a real delight, particularly the seafood platter which I'd highly recommend to anyone. Brilliant wine list too. Only complaint is that it is a very noisy place to dine. The really need to do something about the acoustics. There also seemed to be a real shortage of waiting staff on the day that we were there as they were very slow in service.
