If you're not the religious type (and no, food worship is not classed as a religion) then you may feel a little out of place here with the hundred-odd evangelical paintings adorning a single white wall. Everyone from the Virgin Mary to Baby Jesus makes an appearance; but for the heartfelt atheists, they're thankfully paired off with deco-style wallpapered walls, rustic furnishings and an exposed bar area. Anyway, the bright menu ought to be a good distraction. Smoked trout with braised leeks and prune; roasted kasseri with pickled watermelon rind; and pork and beef wrapped in silverbeet are just some of the savoury gourmet options. A note on the menu reads: 'ask for lots of bread and feel free to make a mess', granting permission to succumb to a less than holy dining experience.

Weird and unsettling
I don't know if this place has changed hands but I found this a weird and horrible dining experience. To start with, there was vast confusion about the menu - what was available, what was off, whether we had the lunch menu or not. But once we'd ordered (which took a while) we rather wish we hadn't.
The food was a stab at 'new' Greek, but the dishes had a 'Kitchen Nightmares' pretentious strangeness to them.
Exhibit 1: Grilled haluomi cheese in a puddle of apple sauce. How (and why?) do you stuff up haluomi? The sauce was way too sweet and the flavours didn't belong in the same dish. Exhibit 2: an abomination of a dish which can only be described as a baklava with a prawn stuck in it. Weird, far too sweet and totally unnecessary. The only dish that hadn't been pointlessly monkeyed with was a small pile of lamb meatballs that were OK. Not great, just OK.
Combine this with random, slow service and a mezzanine table setting next to the kitchen extractor fan and you have an evening to forget.
