It's no surprise that this Hawthorn hub is attracting its fair share of enthusiastic epicureans. Its selection of imported and local wines and beers is bountiful, as are the impressive Mediterranean-style mains and tapas dishes to go with the vino. Named after owner/chef Raymond Fenech's home town of Msida, Malta, Bar Msida ensures its "trendy tapas and wine bar" tag is justified, showcasing local produce, traditional recipes and the finest drops. Tapas titbits include boned Yarra Valley quail with sweet and sour shallots; Egyptian-style hamburgers on a stick with cumin, coriander and cinnamon; and lady fingers, featuring spicy Lebanese lamb and cucumber yoghurt. On the main menu, everything from lamb two ways to Romsey veal scaloppini gets a run, while the desserts are decidedly decadent (anyone for a house-made honeycomb semifreddo with mango-blueberry salad and Persian fairy floss?).
