Is there anything more pleasant than a Saturday morning spent in the courtyard at Bar Italia with the paper and one of their fabulous iced coffees? Locals line up on the footpath for a table or a big cone of gelato. They're serious about their coffee - the sign says "no soy, no skim" and you'd better believe it.

An Acquired Taste
I have been here twice now- and both times were average. I don't have a problem with the simple decor and furniture, and I don't even mind the lists of what is and isn't available at a specific time of day, and the fact they won't take credit or eftpos. What gets me is the average food and lack of care put into it, and the non-existent service. I'd prefer to pay $5-10 more for a meal to rectify the above, and not be glared at by the wait-staff when I politely request a fork for a bowl of spagetti. At least the gelato is excellent.

Simple but great and no nonsense!
If you get an iced chocolate they will serve you a glass three-quarters full of gelato - I absolutely love it! The iced coffee is the same, but with coffee gelato and a cold espresso shot.
They have a friendly, simple, no-nonsense attitude and basic tables and chairs - but that is in no way a deterrent as the pasta is better than most places that charge twice the price and you can go at almost any time to get a coffee or gelato.
I have been going for years and will continue going - this is one of my favourite restaurants in Sydney.
(People who prefer soy or skim may want to go somewhere else though - they have posters on the menu board stating they only serve the full-cream, full-taste variety.)
