Chances are you've not heard of a banneton before, but you've most probably eaten a sourdough loaf that's been shaped by being cooked in a banneton (a shallow basket or bowl that's often made of wicker).
So it's only appropriate that this charming French artisan bakery would take its name from an instrument close to its doughy heart. Not only will you find the requisite croissants on hand, but you'll be able to choose from a respectable selection of additive- and artificial ingredient-free breads cooked the old-fashioned way in a woodfired oven. If you've got time to stay for a chat with a friend, the coffees and gourmet sandwiches are worth lingering over.
