For too long, Coogee has been seen as a kind of gastronomic anti-mecca. Restaurants such as Bananapalm show that times are thankfully changing. Bananapalm combines modern decor - gentle lighting and muted tones - with a definite flavour of colonial Vietnam. The food is a similar East meets West hybrid. Chef and owner Hai Pham creates classic Vietnamese dishes that reflect a French colonial influence, and are presented in a Western style. The warm duck salad with Vietnamese mint, peanut and eschalot is highly recommended, or the banquet menu offers an excellent range of dishes at the reasonable price of $40 per head.

Fabulously fresh food, exciting menu and excellent ambience. This is a revamped version of the old Thai Kim, which was also good, but nothing on this Vietnamese fusion! Great value for excellent food and dining enjoyment.
