Banana Leaf

This versatile Civic venue aims to effectively corner the city market, offering an ambitious variety of dining options. Banana Leaf is a seemingly laidback cafe during the day, morphing into a slick modern a la carte restaurant at night. The menu caters for diverse tastes, featuring a classic selection of modern Australian dishes (think risotto, pasta and a steak sandwich), Sri Lankan cuisine (string hoppers and curries) and a number of dishes that combine the two. Among the modern Australian dishes are a number of meals incorporating native Australian spices.

Outstanding
I took some friends out for a farewell dinner and had an absolutely fantastic time. The food was awesome with all of us taking the opportunity to sample different dishes and then swap amongst ourselves. The staff were helpful and provided good advice on the different dishes and what to expect.

Would definitely come back again.

Reliably good
A recent lunch was excellent. There was a large group and everyone loved the food. I've been here 4 times and have never been disappointed.
It really is a great Canberra icon.

Unhappy night at Banana Leaf Civic
Disappointed again with the service - after being asked by owner (via phone call next day) to return and 'there would be something extra on the table' which I naively assumed a discount card - (nothing). After discussion with supervisor (owner at other restaurant), when paying the bill, was told we could have had dessert and/or coffee free - pointless we didn't want either.
