One of Sydney's oldest pubs, this venue dates right back to 1840 and was a favourite haunt of the beer-brewing Toohey brothers. The proof, so the story goes, can still be seen on the Toohey's logo, which bears the pub's namesake beast.
Whether this pub was responsible for the Toohey's logo or not, it is still an institution of the Sydney pub scene. It has managed to keep its heritage feel while still providing topnotch modern conveniences for its customers. Fittingly for such an historic venue, the menu serves up classic pub fare. Expect to see thick T-bone steaks and beer-battered fish 'n' chips, all waiting to be enjoyed in the fantastic beer garden out the back.
