Lygon Street is not the vegetarian's delight that Brunswick or Smith Streets are, and for vegans the options dwindle to almost none. There is one place though that caters to the finicky and the voracious with equal success. The Baked Potato Cafe serves up fare as simple or as complicated as one desires, from a simple buttered jacket potato to sumptuous feasts of salads and vegetables. Though the menu offers little in the way of surprises, it holds its own in its culinary genre. One doesn't roll up to a stainless steel American drugstore diner and ask for foie gras, or lament its absence. Imagine the Baked Potato Cafe as that diner, transmogrified. The simple laminate tables are there, the cafe seats, the brilliant steel tables on the sidewalk beneath black umbrellas and the deliciously belly-filling potatoes cooked to butter-melting perfection and served without fuss, but with a smile.

Visiting Mr Potatohead!
It's not the first time I've been and definitley won't be the last. Country home-style cafe with warm friendly helpful service. Can't beat the price for a delish meal that's filling without being too heavy! Check out the vegan cheese! Mmm mmm! Perfect pre-movie meal when heading out to Nova which is only a 15 min stroll down Lygon.

My favourite
Excellent service, fantastic fruit juice and consistent, cheap food served fast. Everything is basic and homely, but if that's what you are looking for, a pleasant surprise.
