Baguette

Baguette is a Brisbane dining institution, re-inventing itself several times over the past 30 years and consistently winning awards. The dining room has had a chic revamp, with Baguette's former sous-chef Graham Waddell now heading up the kitchen. The lounge bar at the front offers alfresco dining and overlooks the hustle and bustle of Racecourse Road. Baguette is a family affair with Francis and Marilyn Domenech and their son Geoff working consistently to provide a memorable dining experience.

Great food, great service :o)
My dining partner and I recently enjoyed a sensational dinner at Baguette; service was simply faultless, in fact the young waitress who looked after us [was that a french accent I heard?] could easily write a book on how it is done; she was courteous, respectful, knew lots about the menu and made some nice recommendations for us. The food was sensational; without exception. For entree I had the grilled octopus and chorizo which had loads of grill / bar-b-que flavours and my friend had the foie gras parfait which was sublime. For mains I had the duck which was outstanding I always get excited when I am served duck which is cooked properly in Brisbane because I have had it done badly in so many places. The duck was served with beetroot, prunes and foie gras; quite a taste sensation. My friend had the fish which was salmon, another clean, fresh plate. Simply lovely.

Overall, well done to the whole team at Baguette! In a neighbourhood which has many mediocre eateries and only one or two decent ones, Baguette is the stand-out.

What a great experience We can t wait to come back and do it all again!

Great food Great Service Great Wines
My wife and I eat at Baguette frequently (100+ times) because of its consistently excellent offering for both families and business people.

The meals have always been great, with a constant variety of dishes, and we both look forward to the seasonal changes.

The wait staff are "old school". That is, they are professionals who know the menu inside out providing excellent advice and unobtrusive service.

There is a fabulous collection of wines by the glass and they are more than happy to let you try before you buy. What more could you want.

If I ever need to take a client to dine, Baguette is my first choice and I'm never disappointed.

Consistently good food and great service
I dined at Baguette last night (and at least 6 other times recently) and have to say how wonderful it is to find a restaurant with consistently good food and great service. We actually go there so often now that the wait staff know us.

Given I am vegetarian I love the fact that they have a seperate vegetarian section on the menu. Many restaurants either don't bother listing vegetarian dishes or provide only one option. Baguette are also willing to adapt dishes to suit particular dietary requirements without fuss, which is also rare in this industry.

I can thoroughly recommend Baguette to anyone wanting a great food and service.

Absolutely terrible
I saw some negative comment on this site, so I hesitated to go to this restaurant. But it is an established one and the atmosphere seemed to be fine, so we decided to try.

However, it turned out to be a disappointment. The three entrees that we ordered were so so. But the main dish were terrible. I ordered fish of the day. My husband ordered fish pie, which was too salty.

I now believe that ConSpinaci's comment is fair and accurate. All the dish looked unattractive. What this restaurant offers is not worth the money you end up paying. We will never, ever go there again!

Not what we'd hoped for
We'd been planning to go to Baguette for some time, because of its reputation. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. The service was friendly, attentive, helpful and overall excellent, but it was the food that let Baguette down.

I ordered the Bouillabaisse, which came out looking very unappetising, closely resembling a bowl of bbq sauce - thick and dark brown. The taste was very strong, it may have been nice if it had been diluted somewhat. However, it also had a slightly unpleasant smoky flavour, as though at some point some of the ingredients had been burnt. Significant Other had a light, refreshing salmon dish which was good but nothing special.

We both had the squid for a main dish, tough, dry, and accompanied by plain rocket drizzled with balsamic and a couple of sticks of hard dry pancetta. Yawn.

Baguette has all the ingredients of a good restaurant, excellent service, good wine list, nice location, and perhaps in the past the food has been good. They'll have to lift their game in that department if they want to maintain their reputation though.

dissapointing
Perhaps it was built up too much, but nothing about our dining here impressed me. From our experience here, this is not a fine dining restaurant.

The barman broke a wine glass, wasn't at all bothered by it.

We stressed just how allergic to sesame seeds I was, and yet, I found a sesame seed on a 'cracker' - which I was then explained was not made there and the staff were apologetic. (Bought elsewhere?)

The choice of flavors in the scallop and spring onion soup did not compliment each other.

The lamb was over cooked and extremely chewy.

At the end of the day, for the money that his meal cost us, I would have expected a lot more and certainly did not expect to get a sesame seed on my meal when an allergy attack to it can put me in hospital.

We will not be back again.

President, The Samuel Johnson Club
Six Club members, some of whom had not eaten at Baguette before, enjoyed an excellent meal and attentive and professional service. The setting was lovely.
We were all very charmed and impressed and plan to dine there again very soon.
