Bacash

A firm fixture on the Melbourne dining scene, Bacash has earned and held onto its Chef's Hat status in The Age Good Food Guide since 2006 - an accomplishment that not many other restaurants have been able to emulate. The secrets to its longevity are sourcing the finest possible produce and chef and owner Michael Bacash's deft touch when it comes to seafood.

The very fresh seafood is treated in a simple, Mediterranean style. Oyster Toofey is a firm favourite on the menu, a dish that travelled with chef Bacash from his previous restaurant, Toofey's in Carlton. Seafood dishes such as spaghetti marinara and garfish are also greatly appreciated by the regular diners, who can sometimes make dining here a little cramped.

Nice fresh seafood, unpretentious service (but very good)
Special celebration but we didn't want over the top service or to feel out of place. Service was really good and non intrusive so that suited us. Entrees were nice but the mains - the flounder and the garfish - were better (the flounder was super soft). The peach and nougat to finish was devine but the icecream, whilst nice is overpriced at $16 for four scoops and a waffle basket. Not cheap (for us) for three courses and a half bottle of wine - just under $100 each and since we don't live in the area, not somewhere I would rush back too or rave about. However, all in all a nice evening / meal.
