Azteca's

With authentic Mexican cuisine hard to find in Sydney, Azteca's in Randwick stands out as a 'must visit'. Having moved (across the road) Azteca's still follows its tradition of serving good quality Mexican food. The decor consists of sombreros and brightly coloured walls but this simply adds to the charm. You will find the usual tacos and nachos on the menu, but pleasant surprises such as the pozole blanco (white corn and pork soup) and mole poblano (chicken in a spicy chilli, chocolate and almond sauce) should not be missed.

One of the best Mexicans in Oz
Went here on a Thursday night while on tour. I am a Mexican food nazi having spent a lot of time in the US and being constantly disgusted with the slop passed as Mexican in Australia. This place is cheap, friendly and the real deal. The dips were a little disappointing but we had a table of 6 and were well served, all diners liked their dishes (even the drummer who refers to anything not burger-like as "funny food") and my chipotle beef was great. Nothing fancy but great all the same, and serves were generous. They have a great range of Mexican beer (ahh Bohemia!) and the owner has a great range of comedic routines regarding their extra hot salsas. Can't wait to go back there, this place is up with Los Amates in Melbourne and That Little Mexican Place in Perth.

I'm mexican and LOVED the food
As a mexican who has lived outside of Mexico for over 5 years in various countries, it was WONDERFUL to find a place with THE REAL THING. Please don't go for anything you know in the menu... Forget fajitas, nachos or enchiladas, go for the various types of mole, or the delicious pipian verde... HMMMM...

The ceviche (fish cocktail starter) is outstanding! It was the dish that told my taste buds: "They got it right here!" exactly like the ceviche one eats in Mexico...

Mr Jos(?) Cruz is very friendly and takes care of his clientele in a very friendly and personal way. And he also takes out his guitar and sings.

The food is the reason I will be going back, as well as the fact that they sell some Mexican products which I am happy to know where to buy now.

Oh, and here you get real corn tortillas with your main... just like in Mexico :)

Can you tell how happy I am to have gone there?

And the tequils selection is good - none of the cheap crappy stuff that makes people abroad think that tequila is a bad drink.

Give this place a go... Enjoy!

One of the only good Mex stops in Sydney
I'm from Texas and it's been hard to find good Mexican in Sydney. Thank goodness for Azteca's. The salsa and chips are great (especially for those who like it spicy!) and all the dishes I've had are very fresh - not the dog food you get at a lot of the other local Mex joints. The owner is extremely friendly - makes you feel like a local, even if you are. If you're lucky, he'll play a few songs for you.

Some like it Chilli
Dinner at Azteca's was a good experience for this first-time diner in Sydney. The menu offers a good selection of native Mexican fare with friendly but unobtrusive service. I can highly recommend the Native Mexican Nachos. A word of warning, you will love this place if you like chilli.
