Assaggi Italiani will surely please with its contemporary decor and classic Italian fare combining to make a memorable dining experience. With a woodfired pizza oven taking centre stage in the dining room, it's no surprise that the expertly crafted pizza is why diners come to this homely Italian spot. This is not to discount the plethora of other Italian dishes available; they're all on the menu here, from veal scaloppine to a varied selection of pasta and risotto.

2nd dinner a failure
After our first dinner at Assaggi, which was good, we were anxiously looking forward to going again. Unfortunately after a great 1st time, the follow up was not good. Started with a garlic focaccia (which we had the 1st time). This time it was drier and more like a biscuit - OK but not great. Main courses consisted of vegetable risotto, lasagna, pasta amatriciana and the special of stuffed quail. The pasta was enjoyed by our younger daughter and being homemade was good. The lasagna was OK but nothing special. Both tasters agreed that better had been had a other local restaurants. The risotto was heavy with carrots but again nothing special. However, the quail was a disaster. It was overcooked resulting in a dry dish which fell apart as you cut it. It was so over cooked that the bones all fell apart and you spent most of the time trying to pick them out. The stuffing was meant to be sausage wrapped in pancetta - I've had a lot of european sausages and couldn't find one here. Also missing was the pancetta.
Finally when they came to collect the plates, we informed the owner of the nature of the quail and the poor guy didn't know how to react. Just took the plates and didn't come back!
Needless to say we didn't stay for desert.
We are a local who regularly eat out (1-2 times per week). We will not be going back!
