A modest but popular little eatery in Fortitude Valley, Asian House is a cheap and cheerful place where traditional Chinese food and broader Asian tastes are served in a basic, casual dining setting. All of the favourites are here, including pork, chicken, beef, duck, calamari, vegetable, noodle, soup and rice dishes, plus a few specials, too.

New Owners, trying to be the same
I've been a regular at Asian House for years. My partner and I have loved long conversations with the owner, and seamless service from the waitstaff. The food has been incredible, and it has been wonderful to walk into a restaurant and be recognised and welcomed. Tonight was different. We haven't been for about four months (a very long time for us) and from the moment we entered the door, it felt different. The first clue that there was new management, was the stark-white fluoro lights, and a new "specials" offer. The food is still really good - but noticeably different. The decor has changed (think Christmas lights and white plastic table cloths) and the staff are awkwardly 'new'. One thing that would never have happened before; the waitstaff stand on the footpath and ask people if they are looking for dinner, and want to come in... Horrifically off-putting, and something that acts as a deterrent to me. They were very keen to see if we liked each dish, and were a little clumsy in their service. There were no mistakes, but it was a striking contrast to the seamless service we received in the past. Though the food was still authentic and of a high standard, I think we have decided that this is one place that has become 'take-away' only. We returned home to start madly searching to see if the owner has relocated, and exactly how far we have to go for a decent salt and pepper quail. The search continues.

Authentic - Authentic - Authentic
I stumbled across Asian House on my first business trip to Brisbane in the late 1990s and fell in love. Now I live on the GC and visit everytime I am in Brisbane.
The food is very authentic and the no-fuss service is wonderful. I love the buzz and noise, the efficient staff, and the minimal decor - that's what really good Chinese food is about - the food.
I ate the duck noodle soup and it was wonderful...juicy, tender, and the noodles tasted home-made. Shreaded beef and pork with beans are other favourites.

A certain favourite
This would be one of my favourite Chinese restaurants in Australia. The service is impeccable, the food is good and close to traditional, the furnishings are simple but always clean and there is always, always plenty of tea. If you want something that is not on the menu (like a fiery gong bao ji ding) their able chef can whip it up. Favourites: salt and pepper quail, salt and pepper dofu, salt and pepper calamari, spicy eggplant with pork mince, spicy green beans, mushrooms with bok choy and garlic sauce, salted fish claypot, imperial fillet steak, gong bao dofu (or gong bao ji ding). The management are friendly and helpful. We organised our own menu for a special banquet one night, and this was easy and well priced. They are often open late and can manage to find a spare table even when they appear fully booked. Overall, dining here is a must! Not as 'Chinese' looking as some of the other restaurants, Asian House keeps it simple and clean with the emphasis on good food and great service.
