Located at the northern end of King Street, in close vicinity to five or six local Thai joints (this is Newtown after all), is Asakusa. Truthfully, there is nothing overly surprising about Asakusa, nothing that jumps out of the menu, striking you are gastronomically daring or decisive - and therein lies the beauty of the place. All the energy goes into making fine Japanese cuisine, without wasting time on daring dishes.
From the self-cooked shabu-shabu steamboats to sashimi, gyoza and a variety of tempura, you'll be hard-pressed to find a dish that doesn't appeal to your Japanese tastebuds. This is certainly a local favourite - the number of them dining there on any given night gives it away.
