Aroma Cafe Bar

Located in the North Quarter of Canberra Centre, Aroma Cafe Bar offers a healthy break or coffee stop for exhausted shoppers and laidback locals. If you're big on breakfast, then the Aroma Big Breakfast has it all: two farm-fresh eggs (served poached, fried or scrambled), crispy bacon, tomato, fresh cipollatas, button mushrooms, a hash brown and two slices of toast. The open grills, gourmet sandwiches and mains show off Aroma's international influences, predominantly Italian, as in the Mediterranean open grill featuring prosciutto, roasted capsicum, bocconcini and semi-dried tomatoes served with fries; and Asian, including the Thai chicken satay skewers. A range of low-GI options are available for the health-conscious, and kids are also well-catered for. Cool off with a frappe or thick shake, or warm up with a macchiato or hot chocolate.

Going downhill fast
I used to be of the opinion that this place was pretty good.. the coffee was excellent and the meals were delicious. Things have changed..

The owner used to be very hands on with this little enterprise however he is now seldom seen there and has left the running of the operation to hired help.. (or perhaps he sold it). In any case the coffee is now pretty average and you can certainly get better elsewhere. You don't get nearly as many chocolate rocks with your coffee as you used to and the food quality has become very ho-hum. The open sandwich of marinated chicken that I had was poor in flavour lacking in avocado and slightly soggy,(should an open grilled sandwich make a kind of squelchy sound when you have a bite?... I think not) the fries that came with it were crispy but stone cold..

I really used to like this place and I hope this review serves as a wake up call for them to pick up their game as I'd really like to see a return to better standards..

I love this place!
This little cafe serves the best coffee in Canberra! A big call I know, but it's imported from Melbourne and it is good! They also know how to make it - my day just doesn't start without a latte from Aroma. It sits in the Canberra Centre - looks pretty unassuming, but they do a great, quick, fresh lunch - soup and toasted sandwich style. Nothing too fancy, but clean and well priced. It's pretty popular, mainly due to the coffee. And they do great cake as well - not the mass produced stuff. Friendly staff, quick service. Highly recommended!
