Stylised and well-designed (one of the owners is an architect), this thriving little cafe has classy grey-coloured walls, linen-clothed tables and modern white seats. Though only open for dinner twice a week, the breakfasts are delicious and the lengthy list of lunch specials is a who's who of traditional Italian dishes. Try the homemade gnocchi, which comes with different topping each day, such as butter and sage or a duck ragu.

Just too yummy!
I'm a regular customer at Arkibar for a very good reason. The food is always so yummy, whether you drop by at lunchtime for a takeaway sandwich (gourmet fillings), or something a little more substantial. Pasta, meat and soup dishes are authentic, tasty and good value (best bruschetta). Only gripe is that it can get quite rowdy at lunchtime so if you want to hear yourself think, sitting outside is probably a better option (there are heaters). Staff are always friendly & efficient (as long as you remember your manners and smile). Coffee (& Soy Chai) are also top notch.

Great place, great food & fantastic coffee
Arkibar has long been a favourite of mine in South Melbourne. No matter what meal, season or how i'm dressed!, the guys always impress.
PS - Why not have a lazy and tranquil Saturday morning breakfast away from the crowds and babble.

A mixed experience
I've been to Arkibar for breakfast, lunch and dinner and the food and coffee is always excellent. My only gripe is that while the service has mostly been excellent, the one time I stopped in for just a coffee was decidedly different. Even though it was late morning and the restaurant was nearly empty, my companion and I were made to feel most unwelcome because we were not buying food. So since then if I just want a morning coffee I go elsewhere in South Melbourne.
