Aria

Perched on a Circular Quay corner and offering breathtaking views of Sydney's stellar harbour, Aria Restaurant Sydney has a formidable reputation for consistency, quality and fine modern Australian cuisine. Head chef Matt Moran needs no introduction, and together with business partner Peter Sullivan, he is in an enviable position as one of Australia's finest restaurateurs and chefs.

Aria has held two coveted Chef's Hats from the Sydney Morning Herald's Good Food Guide for eight years - almost as long as it's been open.

Moran's latest fine-diner, Aria Restaurant Brisbane, sees some of his most keenly appreciated culinary creations gracing the menu. Located in Brisbane's stylish yet relaxed Eagle Pier, the restaurant has an idyllic view of Brisbane River and Story Bridge.

Those dining at Aria Restaurant Brisbane can expect classic Moran creations such as Peking duck consomme with duck dumplings and mushrooms; twice-cooked pork belly with apple puree and black pudding; and grilled King George Whiting with gamberetti and saffron mayonnaise. There's also a selection of prime cut meats, such as Blackmores grain-fed wagyu sirloin, with condiments including Chimichurri and bearnaise.

Moran's ethereal dessert creations include a rich chocolate delice with chocolate sorbet, and the wine list here is more than up to the task of pleasing Brisbane's oenophiles.

Amazing food
The Entree was just pure pleasure.
I highly recommend the 'Consomme'.
The wheat beers were also very nice.
The lamb rack is also highly recommended for the mains.

Didn't quite live up to the hype!
My fiance and I were excited to go and find out what all the hype was about at Matt Moran's new restaurant in the Eagle Street Pier dining precinct.

We arrived at 8pm on a Thursday evening to a full restaurant (we booked late, so 8pm was the only booking left for the evening). We were promptly seated and given menu's. Water came round to the table after about 10 minutes and then our wine order was taken. The wine took around another 5-10mins to arrive. We ended up having to signal a waiter to come and take our orders even though our table was situated in the middle of the restaurant.

For entree, we ordered half a dozen oysters with 3 dressings including, shallot and red wine vinegar, seafood sauce, and a soy/mirin dressing. At $5 each oyster, I expected them to be of half decent size, but when they arrived i was a little disappointed. While they did make up for their lack of size in taste, they were served a little too cold, oysters should be chilled however upon serving should be just below room temperature.

Before having the oysters, we were served a complimentary apertif- gaspachio- a cold soup (pumpkin and aniseed)- I am not a fan of aniseed so could not stomach more than a tiny sip, so I left it and tucked into the copious amounts of complimentary bread we were being served to fill in time between courses.

Finally our main courses arrived 40 minutes after we'd gobbled down the oysters. My partner and I decided to go for the same meal and we ordered some glazed honey baby carrots on the side. I was pleased to say that my snapper with ginger, shallots, bok choy and black bean sauce was cooked just the way I liked it. The skin was crispy and the flesh of the fish was melt-in-your-mouth soft. The authentic black bean sauce worked perfectly with the dish overall. Half way through our meals we saw Matt Moran striding from the front desk to the kitchen.

After finishing our meals, we were suprised when Matt Moran came out to talk to a few tables including ours and asked us how our meal was! After this we were given complimentary petit fours- which consisted of a tiny to-die-for mint chocolate ball coated in cocoa, a small square of real turkish delight and a square of almond nougat. We loved it considering we aren't huge dessert fans- it was just enough to satisfy the end of meal sugar craving one usually gets, it doesnt cost any extra and it doesnt ruin all your hard work at the gym. We left the restaurant with a pretty hefty bill and while we had a mostly pleasant experience, there are still a few teething problems with the service. But I suppose this can be expected in any new restaurant.

All in all, we had a good time, but its one of those restaurants that you go to experience and leave it at that one visit- that is of course unless you happen to be invited back there by friends also wanting a chance to experience the hype of it all, and most importantly, are prepared to burn alot of money!

Dessert to Die For
The food was excellent, my partner and I went there for our anniversary on Tuesday, and the restaurant was full.

The lamb was cook beautifully and the banana dessert was to die for. I just want to go back for dessert.

There seem to be a waiter for each job. We had a bread lady, a drink lady, a waiter that took down our order, the server, and the bill man. We ended up staying there for two hours, but it didn t feel like it, the service was exceptional and quick.

It s expensive, but worth it for a celebration dinner.

Dry fish
I went there during the week with my partner and the fish was over cooked. Really dissapointed. pity since the service/atmos was good.

Maybe give it another go in a few months when the prices have come down/food has improved.
