Araliya

If you're new to Sri Lankan food this is an excellent place to learn all about it with the help of your welcoming hosts, Sriyan and Dee. The emphasis is on subtle spices, coconut and fresh seafood. Try the unique string hoppers (like vermicelli pancakes) as an accompaniment to the generous, aromatic dishes. It's all served in a stylish atmosphere backed up by a fine wine list. To top it all off, those in need of gluten-free dishes will find them in abundance here. There's also a respectable number of vegan and strictly vegetarian plates.

Disappointing
While the food was good (not great), the place was pretentious, the service somewhat sycophantic and the prices far too high.

Fine Dining Curries
I tried Araliya in my endless search for a classy Sri Lankan or Indian restaurant. I am pleased to say I finally found one in Melbourne. Dining at Araliya was a special occasion, (while I was told there is a cheap cafe menu, I suggest the real thing for the true "foodies" out there) the food was a hybrid of traditional and modern cuisine. Service was friendly and always smiling, but to me what makes this place a top restaurant is the food. I will definitely be a returning customer. For anyone heading down there, try the duck confit, you can thank me later.

Nothing special
Being a fan of Sri-Lankan food, I was very disappointed with the food. The presentation was appealing but having waited for over an hour for the food to arrive, I would have eaten anything that was placed in front of me

The special was not available yet it still appeared on the specials board and the wine we requested was unavailable too.

The waiter who served us was polite and made an effort to explain everything to us, however the head waitress had real attitude and spoilt the entire experience.

I would never eat here again since the food was overpriced and the service was poor.

Allergy Conscious Delight!
We settled on Araliya for a work lunch after trying to find somewhere that could cater for the various food "issues" within the group. I approached with caution having had many occasions in the past where I was either promised gluten free and it wasn't or was made to feel like I was a hassle. I cannot speak highly enough of our experience at Araliya. The service and the food was what you would expect at an expensive restaurant in the CBD. But beyond that, everything was explained thoroughly and the waitress had a clear understanding of our various allergies and intolerances and confidently steered us through the delicious menu. Plus there is a comprehensive and impressive wine list. We all (including those who can eat whatever they want!) left feeling great having been treated as valued customers, eating delicious, healthy and fressh food. Can't wait to go back!

Birthday dinner
I was really impressed with this place.
The chicken stuffed with papaya and a pineapple salsa was a very pleasant surprise.
