Aquacotta takes its name from the Italian word for boiling water, plucked from a worn and dog-eared recipe for a Tuscan-style soup. This is the first hint at what is going on in this old-style trattoria.
The overriding theme here is having respect for the past but also making it relevant in the present. It's easy enough to see this in the home-style service and ambience at Aquacotta, but it's in the food that this philosophy truly shines. The menu is comprised mainly of classic Italian dishes with slight modern twists. A double-roasted duck leg and breast with sauteed leek, spiced pears and balsamic onions finished with a red wine jus is the perfect example of this fusion of old and new.
For first timers to this restaurant, think twice before moving past the signature Seafood Aquacotta, a medley of fresh seafood cooked in a traditional terracotta hotpot with vegetables and crusty bread.
