Amazing food, service and value
I went to Aperitif yesterday for an anniversary dinner. When we had booked we had asked for a nice table however we were just shown a normal table. However, as it was a cold night we were seated near the fireplace so all was well! We were served by two wonderful servers a young woman and an older gentlemen who were lovely, friendly and attentive without being overbearing. They made us feel very comfortable and even chatted to us which was a lovely touch. We ordered the Scallops, Stuffed Calamari, mushrooms with bone marrow, Anchovies with Grilled Bread and the Steak Onglet. The stuffed calamari was average and the mushrooms had a very tough crouton however the Anchovies more them made up for those dishes. This was definitely the stand out dish for the night and if I had known this would have happily ordered 4 servings and be done with dinner. Overall, great service, great food, great atmosphere!

Best French In The East
In an adventurous fusion of French and Mediterranean food, David Bitton and his team have created a lively and opulent wine bar - a plushly appointed late 19th century terrace with a 21st century night-out buzz. High ceilings and good separation of tables make conversations possible. The tapas-style servings of French food confused our table at first - what were we meant to do? The informal but attentive staff (without attitude) helped us sort the vexed question - do we share courses or select individual ones? Simple - we shared entrees and enjoyed individual mains. Food (with gently spiced Spanish influences) and wine were wonderful as was the meticulous attention to detail from Riedel glassware to quality china. Pricey for this part of town - two mains, three shared small plates and six glasses of excellent French pinot noir came to $170 - Aperitif still represents good value. We left in high spirits through the flotsam and jetsam of the local neighbourhood. Aperitif sees a welcome return of elegant European dining - with a touch of bohemia - to Kings Cross.
