Anada Bar and Restaurant

Anada is an unusually slick addition to the casual cafe district of Gertrude Street in Fiztroy. The dining space is clean and cosy with classic table settings and the intimate glow of tea lights, but it is also small so this little eatery packs out quickly.

Chef and co-owner Jesse Gerner gained experience at Melbourne's renowned tapas haven, MoVida, before perfecting the tapas tradition in Spain and at London's Moorish mecca, Moro. Some of the tantalising tapas options will be familiar to Melburnians who've been reared on the traditional tastes of MoVida, with dishes including queso manchego with membrillo (thinly sliced Spanish sheep's milk cheese with quince paste).

However, the seafood-dominated raciones menu experiments a little with traditional favourites, including Galician octopus with potato and paprika; chargrilled prawns with salmorejo and pancetta; and the signature mackerel, chargrilled in vine leaves with orange blossom and pistachio sauce. Vegetarians won't go hungry with such tapas as organic tomatoes marinated in 25-year-old sherry vinegar and mint; and aubergine and tomato pilaf topped with dill and yoghurt.

Desserts again take the tastebuds on an adventurous tour with slow-roasted peaches with labneh; and pomegranate and orange blossom sorbet with sugared pistachios.

Great night
I had a friend from Germany over here in May. When in Spain we alway go to for the best Tapas in town and we wanted to experience that again here. We decided to try Anada as we had heard good thing about it. And they were fantastic. On the Sunday night we went there they were quite busy so we ate at the bar. The staff we very informative and we enjoy everything we tried. The stuff calamari was so tender. The quail was small but so well cooked. We also enjoyed the fried aubergine so much we ordered a second round of it. And the crispy goat at first I couldn't get my friend to try it as she never had goat before but once she tried it she was hooked. The Spain wine that we order was excellent match to most of the dishes. Looking forward to going back to try all the other dishes.

mucho muy bien!!
Finally an opportunity to visit Anada - WOW, this place is amazing & the overall experience tops a visit to the tapas mecca in the city.
As a package Anada has it 100% right - small, friendly, imformal with great food & wine creating the best atmosphere.
We sat at a bar table, from where we could easily immerse outselves in the buzz & watch amazing dishes emerge from the kitchen.
We started with a dry sherry, Boquerones & Croquettes.
while we purused the menu.
We settled on the calamari & empanadilla tapas followed by the raciones of smoked fish, carrot salad & mushrooms with a glass of albarino.
Overall the food was sensational with the Boquerones, & Smoked fish, not to be missed highlights.
A note of interest: the carrot salad is a bowl of carrot cylinders with mint leaves & a dressing - niely prepared but not what was expected, & the mushrooms, again were excellent but the qty was too much - would be better serves as a tapas dish?
The service was very efficent with the waiters displaying no issues with the same questions from a multitude of customers.
We cant wait to go back again!!
