Italian???
We ordered the garlic bread for a starter. It looked appetising enough, arriving pizza-style with promising dots of just-charred garlic on top. However, one bite revealed to us that they had managed to ruin this simplest of Italian-restaurant staples. It was dry, flavourless and frankly inedible. We sent it back. Take two proved no better, although the apologetic waitress ensured us it was the fault of a new member of kitchen staff. We gave the bread a miss and she assured us that the main we had both ordered (carbonara) was good as she herself had tried it. We were delighted with the free glass of (fantastic) wine offered to us as compensation for the garlic bread. Unfortunately the carbonara was only marginally better than the garlic bread, although there was certainly no shortage of it. The cream was slightly curdled, the consistency of badly scrambled egg, and the fettucine was more al-over-cooked-e than al-dente. It beggars belief that a restaurant purportedly Italian is unable to deliver on even the most basic of menu items. Top marks for the friendly, co-operative and apologetic floor staff.
