Aja

"A journey to Aja will change the way that you eat" is the guarantee that this place gives and the myriad array of recipes prepared at Aja certainly do meander through a broad range of Asian cuisines. Aja's proprietors intend to showcase their favourite dishes from all over south-east Asia, such as satay aja (sticks of chicken and beef skewered and grilled to perfection served with minced tomato chilli and herb sauces); roast beef seaweed rolls; whole prawn toast (king prawns, slightly floured, deep-fried and served on soy toast), tempura battered fish with sweet and sour sauce; and lamb shank slow-cooked for hours in rice wine and northern Chinese spices.

The dining space is stunning with wood panel floorboards, rattan chairs and gleaming red lamp wall decorations exuding a warm glow beside reclining Buddhas. An elevated dining space beside the full bar at the rear of the restaurant provides a more secluded enclave of tables and winding stairs lead to further private dining spaces. The service is refreshingly unobtrusive and with flavours that travel right across Asia you are presented the opportunity to take a culinary mini-break from Japan to Malaysia, India, Korea, China and Thailand.

Consistently Excellent
We have eaten here half a dozen times over the past few years and the standards have always been high. Aja is in our personal top twenty favourites and after another superb dinner it's going to stay there. The cuisine is "modern Asian" and everything we have tried is exquisite. Prawns in egg white might sound unexceptional but just try it! Or lamb shanks the Chinese grass plains way. Or shut your eyes and pick at random. You are unlikely to be disappointed.

Fantastic
We dined at Aja on Saturday evening - and what can I say - we were all very impressed with the atmosphere, service, food quality - all round a great experience. The place was buzzing - busy yet comfortable. The Meekong prawns were fantastic - as was the entree squid. Green tea panacotta was refreshing. Well done to the team for making our night very enjoyable.

Great Food & Service
We went and shared meals with a party of six. The food was delicious and interesting and there was loads of variety. The Wasabi prawns and the no nonsense stir-fry noodles were just some of the delectable dishes. In addition, the choc pudding is not to be missed. The staff were really attentive and friendly and the decor very upmarket and appealing. I highly recommended it for a great night out.

Great restaurant
Went to Aja for a friend's birthday to their private dining area. Staff were very friendly, very accommodating and the service was great. Food was lovely (we had the set menu). Would definitely go back.

Wow, this place has it all
I watched with anticipation as this place was built last year. I've been probably every fortnight since either for takeaway, a quick dinner, (very) long lunches or formal business dinners.
The food is always easy to eat (yet has a twist - try the sweet and sour fish) and the meals are designed to share; whatever you do don't miss the choc pudding.
The wine: we've nicknamed the owner Mr Miargi (of Karate Kid fame) for his Zen-like knowledge of wine, cocktails and anything else needed for a memorable meal (and a mild hangover).
The staff: Mr Miargi seems to know the business like the back of his hand. Apparently he started the Mask of China in Little Bourke Street (unconfirmed). The coffee guy has some of the best coffee art I ve ever seen.
It's a great place, the only downside is that it gets busy so either book ahead for a seat or phone ahead for takeaway or it could be a wait.

Friday lunch
My lunch partner and I had a few entrees/light meals to share. Every dish was tasty and interesting and fresh. The service was great and very friendly. Will definitely go back there again. Great value.
