A Cafe Etc

This cutely named eatery supplies Brighton beachgoers with hearty breakfasts, generous lunches, cool drinks and caffeine hits. The 'cafe' part of the name is obvious, but the 'etc'? Marilyn fan club, perhaps? The walls are plastered with images of the Hollywood siren, adding a touch of glamour to the rustic space. Celebrity wallpaper aside, this cafe is known for its all-day breakfasts.

Good food and the beautiful Marilyn as company. Heaven.
Heard about this excellent Cafe from a friend in the United States and look forward to a visit next time I am in Adelaide. The Marilyn deco must be fabulous.

Shocking service
Not only has the service always been terrible, but now the food is appalling to match. Staff are extremely unwelcoming, rude and argumentative. Simple pre-made food such as cakes are nice:) After giving A Cafe Etc so many chances to improve, if I want to enjoy a sunny lunch at Brighton, I will now visit the little cafe up the road on the corner.

Atmosphere only nice thing!
The coffee came quickly which was about the only good thing about this cafe. I have been here twice. The first time with a few friends for breakfast. My friend ordered the more expensive breakfast which she had paid for yet they brought another breakfast out insisting this one was hers. The waitress argued with us and was very rude. The second time I went back with my parents after ordering a chicken focaccia a toasted chicken sandwich came out. I took it back to exchange as this wasn't what I ordered. The waitress argued with me again insisting she was right (number one rule Customers are ALWAYS right) and telling me the cook had gone home. I said to her I didn't want the sandwich.
The Marylin Munroe theme is quite honestly, the only nice thing about this cafe.

An enduring love affair
I have been in love with A Cafe Etc since I first set foot inside its Marilyn-adorned walls about ten years ago. Few venues offer such whole-hearted devotion to a theme - just sitting with mug of their rather good coffee and gazing at the walls and bookshelves is a pleasant way to pass an hour - or such consistently good service over such a long time. A Cafe Etc has also become a mecca for Sunday morning cyclists and dog walkers with its great location, prompt service and canine-friendly outdoor seating area. The menu hasn't changed much over the years, quite possibly because it works. The breakfasts especially are simple, tasty, good-sized and good value. The coffee is hot but never burnt (a surprising feat given the quantity of bad coffee to be had across much of Australia). And the cakes are sumptuous. Breakfast is always best followed by a stroll on beautiful Brighton beach.

Delicious cakes and coffee
A Cafe etc's greatest asset is location - peaceful Brighton beach is close and locals and the majority diners in this laid back part of Adelaide. The coffee and cakes are supurb - the range is mouthwatering. Meals aren't that great for what could be one of the best cafe's in SA. Breakfast could do with some better thick toast and the crepes are pretty average. Stick with the dessert and you will be back.
