Don't be fooled by the atmosphere
My wife and I visited this place based purely on the atmospheric look down the laneway. We walked towards the restaurant to have a look on the menu board and we were immediately approached by a tout who put a menu list in our hands to have a look. The menu looked pretty reasonable so we took a seat ordered drinks and a meal. The service was pretty good the drinks were served quickly by a young lady who was very pleasant. The two pastas we ordered were then served about 5 minutes later. This is when the gastronomic delight we expected gave us a clear first round knockout. This was unbelievably bad. This I am sure is the worst meal ever put in front of me anywhere, anytime in any restaurant we had previously visited, most definitely packet penne pasta and I reckon the sauce was out of a tin too and the portions were tiny. The tout or owner or whoever he was had the audacity to ask us if it was o.k. I told him no and asked for the bill immediately. He sent somone else with the bill we paid and left feeling totally ripped off.

Great Atmosphere, Sub-par food
I came here with an open mind, as I had heard mixed reviews regarding Cafe Segovia. Admittedly the atmosphere was great, with the comfy booths, muted lighting and live music which filters through during dinner. Similarly the service was great, with funky student-types maintaining a great level of friendliness and service. However, the food left much to be desired. I ordered a pasta dish, which was dry, had chunks of cut up tomato sitting on top and substandard seafood quality, disappointing considering the amount which I paid. I was a little surprised as it looked like something which I could have whipped up myself in a matter of 10 minutes at home. Perhaps come for the coffee, but skip the meals.

Friendly, relaxed, and great food.
I had heard music emanating from the Block laneway at night, so decided to check the place out. I was by myself, and happily found a cosy spot in the window by the bar (a relief to not have to sit at a table alone!). They also have booths, tables outside, and an additional dining room across the way. I was greeted by a friendly, enthusiastic waiter who offered me food and wine pairing suggestions. The waitstaff continued to be attentive and warm through the meal. The food selection is mainly pastas, and the one I chose, a special with white wine sauce, chicken, olives, zucchini and rocket, was unusual but very good. The music was pleasant but funky and jazzy, and the noise level low, creating a great, relaxed atmosphere. My one disappointment was when the bill came--though the pasta was reasonably priced at around $18, the wine, beer and dessert were all much higher than expected. But still overall a great dining experience!

Delicious
The poor people who placed the last review obviously had a disappointing time but I went here for lunch last week and we had a wonderful meal. The service was friendly and quick and I am a food lover who also adores cooking so I find it very difficult to be fully satisfied with many experiences but the antipasto I had was delicious! Great presentation, almost more variety than mine I create at home, excellent serving size for a very reasonable price. The other 3 meals that my friends had were also very tastey as we all tried each others as they looked so good. As a whole it was a superb meal which has left another experience in a posh looking, overrated (and highly expensive) place just a few doors further into the arcade much to be desired. Awful experience on all fronts on that one but l'd prefer to give good reviews so we'll leave that one nameless.

First and last time
What a beatuiful location - that atmosphere was good with a live band in the laneway (although extremely loud). That's unfortunately where the expreience ended for us.
We each started with a glass of Massoni - warm, after waiting nearly 10 minutes for a waiter.
My main meal was extremely disappointing - nearly $20 for a calamari salad which had no taste at all. The whole 9 pieces came with 3 dipping sauces (all unimaginative - sweet chilli, seafood and something white). The tiny bit of salad greens were wilted and the tomato was soft and floury.
My fiancee had the pizza special - burnt with indiscernible toppings. And tiny. Hardly worth the $16 odd.
