Let's face it, Alexandria isn't exactly spoilt for choice when it comes to funky new venues to call its very own. Luckily, places like this are slowly changing that trend.
Equal parts dining destination and local tippling house, 4143 at the James Barnes has a lot to offer the residents of the 2015 postcode. Perhaps the most refreshing aspect of this new bar and bistro is that the kitchen has chosen to go off the beaten track in their food selection. Instead of serving up the same generic pub grub you could find in any number of venues 4143 has opted for a modern and eloquent carte of Mediterranean dishes.
As an acquiescence to pub traditionalists, the bar food menu stands at the ready for those after fish and chips, pizzas, burgers and schnitzels, but when there are offerings like pappardelle with wild mushroom ragu, or lamb rump with parsnip puree and muscatel jus, you'd only be cheating yourself not to peek at the full bistro menu first.
