Bound to intrigue anybody willing to try something different, this Dutch Indonesian restaurant brings back a bygone food experience known as rijstaffel, a style of colonial, rice-table banquet that emerged during the Dutch rule of Indonesia. Named after the year Indonesia gained independence, 1945 indeed transports you to another time with its interesting cultural artefacts about the restaurant.
While you can order individual dishes in normal a la carte style, the rijstaffel banquet is the best way to truly explore the East Indies' tastes. Some highlights include the sate babi (grilled pork skewers spiced with cumin and coriander), ajam panggang ketjap (grilled sweet and spicy chicken with lime) and oedang panggang goerih (grilled prawn basted with spice-infused coconut milk). Don't worry about the pronunciation; the menu's filled with explanations of each dish.
