In Italian the term 'biblioteca' refers to the library - or, if translated verbatim, a repository for books. In the same way, 'enoteca' means a repository of, not books, but wine. Classic Italian enoteche establishments offer a selection of small dishes to help patrons enjoy a library of predominately regional wines. 1889 Enoteca shows off an even more substantial wine list and serves heartier meals than the truly classical examples of enoteche dotted around Italy.
Chef Trent Robson cooks up modern Italian dishes such as ravioli of lobster, decadent black truffle, scallops and asparagus. This dish is complemented by others delights such as the ocean trout with zucchini flowers and a broad bean, asparagus and pancetta sauce. As one would expect, the wine list includes a large selection of old-world drops augmented by some more familiar new world wines as well.

1889 Enoteca was just lovely
I enjoyed this place for it's lovely cosy atmosphere and great delicate food. I love the whole street's atmosphere. It's unique and a great addition to Brisbane's dining experience. Yes, it's a bit pricey and small servings but that's what this place is about. If you want a big meal for cheap, go to a pub.

Bemused
From reading the reviews already posted, diners either love or loathe this restaurant. I'm afraid I'm heading towards the latter. We made a confirmed booking for 6pm. When we arrived (on time) the rather offhand waiter informed us that our table was occupied and would be for at least another half hour. Our options were the bar, outside or in the non-atmospheric part of the restaurant. We were not off to a good start. We chose outside and then noticed a little while later there were tables inside that remained empty for the next hour.
The food was good but servings are miniscule. The cheapest bottle of Italian wine is $55 and rises steeply from there. I would have thought in these economic times a few cheaper options might be in order. Of course wine by the glass is available, but this too is very expensive.
Overall, not impressed and won't be returning. I would rather spend my $170+ elsewhere.

Awful - don't bother
It was a bad omen right from the start. Ordered an expensive bottle of pinot noir ($100+)and the waiter not only poured it into a Sav Blanc glass, but he just kept pouring - did not even offer a taste first. Had to ask the maitre d' to change the glasses over. The food was even worse. My partner and I both had 2 entrees instead of a main - the gnocchi and the risotto. The gnocchi was passable but the risotto was undercooked. The maitre d' (I think he was - he seemed to be in charge) did not even bother to ask how our meal was or even why we went straight from having our meal to paying the bill in less than 15 mins without even a coffee or dessert. He was just interested in the $$$. We will never go back. The food was overpriced, the service was very ordinary and unprofessional. Overall a horrible night. Don't even bother.

Unhappy
Went with friends to celebrate a birthday - what a disappointment - the lady serving us was stressed out and rude, and the food was fairly average. We were rushed all the way through by the waitress - which as a relatively expensive restaurant is poor. I won't be returning. The only thing that was food was the decor!

Easy going, one of the best!
I tried Enoteca for lunch yesterday on the recommendation of a friend. The place was a little hard to find but the atmosphere of the restaurant was great! I loved the high ceilings and wooden decor - the cool, dark function room downstairs looked perfect for a great party! The wine list was certainly extensive with both Italian and Australian varieties, and the waiter was quite knowledgeable and helped pick a lovely Italian white. Food-wise, we ordered two of the gnocchi con ragu and the Kingfish special. I must say the gnocchi was an impressive and memorable dish! The size of it was not big, but enough to feel satisfied for a Sunday lunch. All in all a very pleasant, enjoyable meal and I'm sure to return to see what the dinner menu is like!

Superb!
This, to date, is my favourite Brisbane restaurant - and I've been to a few. Great food and wine, atmosphere, great service. Also un-flashy and not trying too hard, which always gets my vote. Any place that can serve up risotto which is even better than my other favourite place in Siena, Italy, has my vote. The best dessert wine I think I've ever had. Not cheap but worth every cent. I hope it stays this good.
