Dwarfed by the towering skyscrapers of the CBD, The Chifley is Perth's only true boutique hotel. It claims to have the best address in the city, and if you take a seat on the terrace out front for an alfresco lunch or dinner, you'd have to agree that The Chifley is wholly justified in making such a bold statement. This is arguably one of the best people-watching spots in Perth. Inside, the ultra-chic and sleek cafe offers a relaxed dining experience. By day the sun through a skylight lights the contemporary earth tones; there's also a window offering views into the open kitchen, so you can watch them prepare their innovative creations. To match their imaginative dishes, there are a whopping 40 wines offered by the glass, offering something for every taste under the sun.

Overpriced, inattentive, and probably worth a miss
Thought we'd catch up with some friends for a pre-Christmas meal and hadn't been to the Chifley in a while so thought we might drop in for a look at 185.
The restaurant was totally empty except for us, a table of 6 and a table of 2. There was a private function (of about 10) in a function room. Basically - a very quiet night.
The starter food quality was acceptable, but portion sizes were way too small, and value for money was very poor. So much so that we sent 2 x mains back due to them being completely inappropriate (portion size-wise) for the price. i.e. $36 for a single 5cm pork belly strip, with chewy crackling and some cabbage is a joke.
We then had to wait another 20 minutes for the second lot of mains to appear - by which time the other diners at our table had completely finished their dinner. We decided against accepting our mains and walked out.
No one enjoys walking out of a restaurant, but we found the waitstaff to be way too casual, laidback, and inattentive. Given the lack of customers this really is unacceptable. There were three front-of-house staff on duty who spent most of their time chatting and laughing amongst themselves rather than looking after their guests.
