Mamak Haymarket After doing their time at Chinatown's Friday night markets, the Mamak crew have finally found a permanent home from which to serve their authentic Malaysian fare. The eatery's name comes from the mamak stalls that dot the Malaysian landscape, serving as places for people to congregate and gossip, as much as being purveyors of cheap and tasty food. After learning their culinary skills the hard way, by actually working in these Malaysian stalls, the Mamak boys specialise in traditional roti canai. The menu is based around authentically fluffy, flaky roti, but also includes staples such as nasi lemak, ayam goreng and the (not nearly as tacky as it sounds) Maggi goreng - a variation of mee goreng using Maggi noodles. Desserts revolve around sweeter versions of roti, but no meal is really complete without the teh tarik - a sweet tea which is 'stretched' by pouring it from a height to create froth. more
